Ross is a great place to shop. I have been going there for years. It is now the only outlet store in downtown San Francisco. Usually there is a decent selection of items. The employees are nice. It normally takes 10-15 minutes to check out. Not really a fan to wait in line outside the store, but in general you get into the store in a few minutes. My only complaint would be that one time I had really nice shoes, then I went to try something on to the fitting room, when I was done, my shoes were gone from my shopping card. The attendant lady did not know what happened, and I could not find them anywhere. The last time, I had a little bag with items of over $200 from another shop. They did not let me take it inside the fitting room. I do not know why they give you a number if you cannot take something you get in another shop. I was worried it was going to get stolen. Thanks God it did not. They should allow you to take things bought somewhere else if you are alone, and obviously they do not really watch items left in the fitting room area.

I walked into Ross with planks of wood strapped to my feet, life is horrible. Security thought very rationally, they let me in with my homeless made footwear. I went directly to the 3rd floor to the men’s shoes section. I got the most comfortable flip flops on the whole planet. They were only $18.50. These people know how to treat a customer with respect. I appreciate that. This place has nice deals on all kinds of stuff. I should go back for some new threads.

I like their products however this particular ross was overcrowded understocked and the staff was incredibly rude. One woman who worked there demanded to know what I was taking pictures for and another walked up to me in an obviously fake concern that because I had a scab on my nose which was not even bleeding she said I had a bloody nose, which I totally didn’t she was just trying to make me feel insecure.

I had a terrible experience buying Aeropostale loungeware from Ross. One leg is shorter than the other. It’s unfortunate that companies that used to be big would manufacture and sell a garment with such a major flaw, pass quality control, and be offered to customers.

Top Tips for Shopping at Ross Dress for Less in San Francisco, CA

  • Best Times to Shop: Skip the notorious SF rush hours and shop early weekday mornings for the most peaceful experience. Tuesday and Wednesday mornings are ideal for finding new arrivals, as stores typically restock after the weekend rush. The downtown SF locations get particularly busy during lunch hours and after work, so plan accordingly.
  • Finding Hidden Deals: San Francisco Ross stores are known for their designer finds – check the front sections for premium brands popular with Bay Area shoppers. Don’t skip the clearance racks in the back corners where you’ll often find hidden gems at the deepest discounts, especially in the designer and home sections.
  • Seasonal Shopping Strategy: San Francisco’s mild climate means you can find great deals on seasonal items year-round. Visit during the fog season (June-August) for amazing deals on summer items, and shop post-holiday sales for the best clearance prices. Keep an eye out for red tags indicating additional markdowns.
  • Transportation Tips: If using public transit, the downtown SF locations are easily accessible by MUNI and BART. Consider shopping during off-peak hours to avoid crowded commute times and make carrying bags easier. If driving, morning visits offer better parking options, especially at suburban locations.
  • Store Services: While Ross doesn’t offer online shopping or a dedicated app, the in-store experience is worth braving the SF traffic. The website won’t show store inventory, so visiting in person is your best bet for scoring those Bay Area bargains!
